Season and Events
Let yourself be captivated by a
year of profound and uplifting events with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra’s
102nd season titled "Music and the Arts.” They say the eyes are the window to the soul,
and the season begins with "Music and Art” featuring Debussy’s
Sunken Cathedral, Respighi’s
Church Windows, and
Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, with special guest,
painter Armando Silva. All three of
these compositions effortlessly bring the images of magnificent works of art to
life through music. The "Music and
Literature” concert will delight you with an evening of story telling from the nursery
rhymes of Ravel’s
Mother Goose Suite
to Plato’s philosophies on love in Bernstein’s
Serenade, which will feature the insightful playing of violinist
Michael Ludwig and author Laura Pritchett.
We are excited to announce that once
again the orchestra will be collaborating with UNC Opera Theatre department in
a production of a striking opera by Benjamin Britten based on Shakespeare’s
A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Be sure to celebrate the holidays with the
annual favorite "Poinsettia Pops” concert featuring the Greeley Chorale and the
Children’s Chorale and soprano Jalyn Webb.
This event can be added to your Connoisseur Series Package or Mini
Series Package
. The orchestra will open the New Year with a
"Music and Poetry” concert that will include Bernstein’s
Symphony No. 2 ‘The Age of Anxiety’
and an original composition by our own maestro Glen Cortese. This concert will feature the talents of poet
Lisa Zimmerman, mezzo-soprano Amanda Crider, and pianist John Musto. Returning this season is the Family and
Children’s concert in February, which will capture the minds of all ages with
Saint-Saëns’
Carnival of the Animals
and Prokofiev’s setting of the classic tale
Peter
and the Wolf told through the original narrations of Peter Schikele, and
will feature Marjean Olson and Maestro Cortese on piano. As a grand finale, the orchestra will
collaborate with the combined UNC Choirs in the season’s spectacular conclusion
"Music and Faith” featuring Brahms’
Ein deutches
Requiem.
Of course, the season wouldn't be complete without the return of "Wines of Note" and the GPO Guild's "Kentucky Derby". Join fellow GPO patrons and music lovers during these delightful events, all while supporting the Greeley Philharmonic!
