Conductor Laureate
Howard Skinner
Dr. Howard Skinner retired as Music Director and Conductor of the
Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra in May of 2007 after serving in those
capacities for 37 years. Upon his resignation the Board of Directors
conferred upon him the title of Conductor Laureate.
A gracious and unparalleled musician with a vision, Maestro Skinner has
been recognized for his dynamic programming, stylistic interpretation,
and high performance standards. His activities in the field of music
encompass the entire range of performing, conducting, teaching and
administration.
Dr. Skinner was conductor of the Concert Choir and served on the
faculty of the University of Northern Colorado School of Music for 42
years. In 1985 his demonstrated organizational abilities resulted in his
appointment as Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts. He
served as UNC’s Interim President from 1996-1998, stepping down as Dean
of the College and returning to the faculty in 2000. He retired from UNC
in 2005. In retirement Dr. Skinner has founded "Summer Choralfest”,
which produces chorus and orchestra performances of major works in
Denver . He continues to guest conduct upon occasion.
